Join us on on March 7 2018 for a Celebrity Server Fundraising dinner in support of the amazing work of MEDLIFE Laurentian.
All you have to do is come in and let us know (at the front desk when you check in) that you are having dinner to support this great group. Then enjoy your meal. We'll do the rest! MEDLIFE Laurentian will get a portion of proceeds!
MEDLIFE has many chapters across Canada, the US, and Europe with over 190 chapters world wide in universities alone. MEDLIFE stands for Medicine Education & Development for Low Income Families Everywhere, it is a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO). We are the MEDLIFE Laurentian chapter. Every year we have a goal for all the chapters combined and this year for our major project we are helping raise funds for a Med Centre in Lima Peru. This centre will help give low incomes family proper medical treatment. This Med Centre will also have rooms that volunteers can stay in, and act as a community centre to help educate the locals. Every year MEDLIFE Laurentian also helps send students, and others in the community go mission, or service trips. In these mission trips we set up mobile clinics to teach the locals proper hygiene and supply them with the tools necessary, even if they are simple things we take for granted like a tooth brush and tooth paste, many of these families don't have access to these items. We also try to help provide vaccines, among many other basic needs. While we are there we also have other projects, it typically depends on the needs of the community we are going to. For example, some places don't have a safe access to water, and are climbing dangers hill sides that are very steep and covered in rocks, so we help build a staircase, sometimes the schools are in very poor conditions so we help repair them, or build one. We help in many places such are Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, India, and Tanzania. One thing that we try to do differently is instead of going to each community once, we try and return to check on them and keep helping. We know going once does help but we know it is important to keep helping because one time is never enough, we want to have a lasting impact, and help keep the community moving forward. Not only are we helping internationally but MEDLIFE Laurentian also trys to help our own community, we understand that poverty isn't only an issue in other countries, but it effects our own community right here in Sudbury. This year we have been trying to help raise awareness of homelessness in Sudbury. There is a walk we are participating in called Coldest Night of the year which takes place on Feb 22. We also help volunteer in soup kitchens, and help local farmers with various tasks they need done. We hope that you will come out and support the cause to help people internationally, as well as right here in our own community.
